Interview with Andrew Goodwin of ProRecruitNetwork.com

Andrew Goodwin is the co-founder of a new online venture called ProRecruitNetwork.com. Along with his partner, Burton Rocks, Mr. Goodwin has plans to change the landscape of recruiting athletes that aim to participate in American professional sports. ProRecruitNetwork.com is a database and online sports community intended to help Sports Agents, scouts, and coaches discover athletic talent as athletes prepare to move on to the professional leagues. Many coaches have signed up for the service. Only licensed agents are allowed to join. There is no charge to register.

Darren: You claim to be the first online recruiting company. What makes you believe that you are changing the face of the recruiting business?

Andrew Goodwin: ProRecruitNetwork.com is a new form of online recruiting, because we are appealing to the professional leagues. ProRecruitNetwork.com is looking to connect athletes who want to go pro (to farm leagues, NFL, NBA, etc.)

Darren: How will Sports Agents be able to use your site to their advantage when soliciting clients?

Andrew Goodwin: Sports Agents will use ProRecruitNetwork.com to view information on various prospects as well as upload stats and videos for clients they already represent in an effort to get those clients seen by a pro team scout and/or management. This is unique in that agents will be able to represent their clients to demographics and pro teams that they may not have had access to in the past. The idea is to have a central database where information about a wide-range of athletes as well as an agent’s client is readily available for any professional team to access.

Darren: How many Sports Agents have already joined the site?

Andrew Goodwin: Well over 100 Sports Agents, specifically, have registered with ProRecruitNetwork.com. Agents have joined from some of the top agencies, including: IMG and Octagon. In addition many scouts and team management from teams in the top sports leagues, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, Arena Football and WNBA have signed up to utilize the ProRecruitNetwork.com community. These include scouts and coaches for the Buccaneers, Saints, Eagles, Cowboys, Panthers, Titans, Vikings, Jaguars, Bills, Broncos, as well as the NJ Nets, Cincinnati Reds, Capitals, Utah Jazz, Suns, and Trailblazers, among many others.

Darren: What role do Billy Wagner, Kevin Mawae, and Joe Bick play in the organization of ProRecruitNetwork.com?

Andrew Goodwin: Both Billy and Kevin are partners in this venture. Billy Wagner is helping to facilitate contact with players interested in turning pro. He can explore and explain what is required to go professional, what to look for in an agent, etc. Kevin Mawae has been able to bring in many coaches and team management to the database. Joe Bick (represents Brian Giles among other baseball players) is on our advisory board.

Darren: Perusing over the website, the content looks a little bare and blog posts seem to be few and far between. Do you plan on adding more content for public consumption or is most of the information provided by the website going to remain in the subscribers’ hands?

Andrew Goodwin: Yes, fresh and relevant content will be added to the site that will help prospective athletes with training, nutrition, try-outs, tips on finding an agent, and related content. We will be presenting trends in the industry and providing techniques about how one transitions from the amateur level to the professional leagues. We also plan on having a number of agents who will contribute to the blog category which will feature a Pro Agent advisory column, tips, and trends.

Darren: On behalf of SportsAgentBlog.com and all of our readers, I would like to thank Andrew Goodwin for an excellent interview, and I wish him the best of luck with ProRecruitNetwork.com. If you are a Sports Agent that frequents this site, I would suggest signing up for Mr. Goodwin’s service.

Sounds like an interesting concept. All other talented people in America have outlets like American Idol, America’s Got Talent etc…to get noticed, but I think this is a first for athletes. Good luck.
