Another One Bites The Dust

Charles Taplin gets indicted for text-messaging college athletes.

Remember when Sports Agent, Charles Taplin, was arrested? You, probably don’t. He’s not the biggest name in the industry, and it happened several months ago [No Tolerance Policy]. The case should serve as a reminder that certain states are starting to seriously improve their regulations on Sports Agent conduct.

Anyway, as an update to Taplin’s initial arrest, he has just been indicted. And a violation of the state law involving sports agents includes a sentence of up to five years in prison and a fine of $1,000 to $10,000 [‘Runner’ indicted in sports agent case]. Taplin may also have to dish out some more money if civil remedies are pursued.

If you want to be an agent, make sure you read the rules and regulations and follow them. The possible consequences of violating such rules are pretty steep.

This seems to be a topic that most agents have talked to me about when I asked them what they would do to renovate the sports agent industry. Most agents would like to see more rules regulating athlete-agent communication. These issues have popped up more than a couple of times and should be something to think about if you are trying to “break” into this industry.

Incredible this is the kind of Stuff that will make it hard for new agents or aspiring agents to make it in this industry, what was so hard about it asking permission to talk to the Student first? Stupid is what stupid does (“Forest Gump”)
