Rocky Mountain High

As of late, the only big news in the sports world has been nothing but bad news. From Vick to the MSG fiasco and now to Olympic superstar Marion Jones admitting using steroids. Finally, though, there is something to cheer about. The Colorado Rockies just announced that they will be giving a full share of the team’s playoff earnings to Amanda Coolbaugh, the wife Mike Coolbaugh, who was a Rockies double-A coach (he died after being struck in the head by a line drive).

This act by the Colorado Rockies speaks volumes about the type of people they have in the front office and on the field. Forget about the fact that they made the playoffs and have a ton of talent, the Rockies are a special team, with special individuals. While this may not be the biggest news in sports, it is worth noting and worth talking about.

I personally want to congratulate the team on this thoughtful gesture and wish them the best of luck in the playoffs.
