Pirates, Doumit Agree to Deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached a contract agreement for 3-years with catcher Ryan Doumit.

The 27-year old will receive a $300,000 signing bonus with $2.05 million next season and $3.55 million in 2010 and $5.1 million in 2011. The contract also bears a $7.25 million club option for 2012 with a $500,000 buyout; if that option is exercised, Doumit will receive a $8.25 million option for 2013. Depending upon awards, Doumit‘s option years could rise by $1 million.

In the 2008 season, Doumit hit .318 with 15 home runs and 69 RBIs in 116 games. He was the Pirates’ second round pick in the 1999 draft.
