Angels, Rodney Make a Deal

Former Tigers reliever Fernando Rodney and the LA Angels have reached an agreement on a 2-year, $11 million contract.

Rodney is a type B free agent, which means that the Tigers will be receiving a supplementary draft pick.

Honestly, I believe that the Angels got a very good deal. Rodney is a solid reliever and led the league in saves last season. More and more relievers are demanding higher salaries these days. I agree with the increase, because relief pitchers are a very important part of the game and can make or a break a ball club.

Darren — Unless something changed very recently, Bill Rego is out of the agent business after being decertified by the MLBPA in 2008. (The rumor mill says it was due to theft from one or more clients, but that’s unconfirmed. Rego reportedly did not contest his decertification.)
