Product Review: Deuce Brand Watches

Product Review by University of Miami law school student and Wolfe Law Miami, P.A. law clerk, Amber Wilson. Follow her @aywilson.

Let me start off by disclosing that I am a Miami Heat fan (disclaimer: if you live in Boston, or just about anywhere with an area code other than 305, don’t give up on me yet). Duece Brand sent us a Miami Heat branded sports watch to review; already the Deuce crew seems a wise bunch.

The Packaging

The packaging of the product makes them appear even wiser. The watch comes in a small plastic bottle of sorts. Imagine a bottle about three inches tall (I used the good ‘ole forefinger knuckle-to-knuckle test for this measurement, its accuracy is nearly fool-proof) that is made of crystal clear plastic. Its square design with rounded edges not only looks sharp, but also makes it a roomy little thing. I bet it wouldn’t look too out of place in a luxury watch club, to be honest. I imagine this bottle to have all sorts of uses once the watch is removed. Its packaging I will be saving long after I’ve opened the product – brilliant!

The bottle has a large and vibrant Miami logo on one of its four sides. The other three sides are reserved for the company’s branding, which includes a hand throwing up a peace sign – fun and modern logos.

My favorite part of the packaging, however, is the bottle cap. The cap mimics the shape of the bottle – large and square with rounded edges. It’s made of rubber, which I can’t stop touching. The rubber is a mix of the Heat’s black, red and white colors ribboning throughout one another in a near tie-dye like manner.

The Watch

Because I can’t stop touching the bottle cap, I’m thrilled to find the wristband of the watch itself is made from the same rubber as the bottle cap. The black, white, and red colors of the rubber on the wristband are more controlled than those of the cap – red on the sides of your wrist, black underneath, and white on the top surrounding its face. Above the watch face is the team’s flaming hoop logo, below the face is the team’s name. This watch screams team pride.

It also screams practical – the Deuce sports watch is very slim, comfortable, and easy to wear. The wristband is less than a half of inch thick (no knuckle-to-knuckle test needed here). The band seamlessly flows into the face of the watch, and only thickens slightly around the digital display. The rubber easily slips over my hand onto my wrist without looking bulky. Although the watch is small, the display is easy to see.

The only drawback of the Deuce sports watch is you have to use a pen tip, or something of that nature, to change the date and time. The tip of my finger, even the edge of my nail, failed miserably at attempting to change the settings. Truthfully, they could have made it a bit easier to change the watch’s settings overall, with only two buttons to do so it’s a bit complex once you do locate a pen. That being said, it’s a small price to pay for the sleekness of this watch.

Overall

With how great this watch looks and feels you’ll hardly care what time it is. The appearance of this watch overall can be likened to one of the ever-popular rubber sports bands people wear on their wrists; however, this one has a very real and useful purpose with the functionality of a watch. Overall, this watch has killer packaging, and is a great looking addition to the sports fans’ wardrobe.
