Michigan’s Trey Burke Taps His Father As Basketball Agent

Over a month ago, I had heard that Michigan guard Trey Burke would be leaving school early and entering the NBA Draft.  That happened.  But I had also been told that Burke narrowed his potential NBA representation down to 5 names: Jeff Schwartz, Arn Tellem, Henry Thomas, Bill Duffy and Alonzo Shavers.

The inclusion of Shavers on that list caught a lot of intrigue.  Schwartz, Tellem, Thomas and Duffy are well known in the world of basketball representation and have developed practices that represent a plethora of highly talented players.  But only Shavers knew Burke since birth.

Shavers, the Founder and President of Infinite Sports Concepts has been an NFLPA Contract Advisor for roughly twelve years.  He is best known for his work with NFL player Asante Samuel (if you did not know that Shavers was Samuel’s agent, the title of Infinite Sports’ website gives it away).  According to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, Shavers has teamed up with Trey Burke’s father, Benji Burke, to open up a basketball division at Infinite Sports Concepts.  Benji will represent Trey.

Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
