There was a big stir in the agent community, which reached depths far outside of same last week when it was first reported by InsideTheLeague.com that South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is “smitten with Jay Z, and that the two are in regular contact under the guise of the rapper recruiting him based on his marketing potential.”  Soon thereafter, Clowney posted a picture to his Instagram account that highlighted the media picking up the story, and added the comment, “You kno we about to turn up. Dream coming true.”

The University of South Carolina compliance department then embarked on an investigation to review the relationship between Jay Z and Clowney and determined whether or not any impermissible benefits were received or impermissible conversations held by the defensive end.  The investigation has concluded and no wrongdoing was found.

At least one sports agent believes that the whole rumor was crafted by a competitor in the sports agent industry.  That agent stated, “Not only is it plausible, I’d guess it’s definite.  Agents compete with agents.”

Of course, none of this means that Jay Z cannot and/or will not sign Clowney to his agency (through Roc Nation Sports NFLPA certified Contract Advisor Kim Miale).  However, that will not be determined or revealed until the end of the 2013 college football season.
