Morgan Stanley And Senior Bowl Ink Deal

A sponsorship agreement between Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment and the Reese’s Senior Bowl has been completed, that will enable the financial services giant to introduce its financial education courses to the players. The 67th Senior Bowl will be played on January 30th, 2016, in their customary location of Mobile, Alabama.

Morgan Stanley Sports & Entertainment Division Managing Director Drew Hawkins said his group has designed a specific curriculum for the select group of athletes this year. “What we’re doing is planting the seeds for smart financial decisions, irrespective of what they do professionally after college,” Hawkins said. “With the athletes in the Senior Bowl, these individuals have a very high likelihood of playing professional football, so this will be more of a tailored curriculum.”

Morgan Stanley will present their financial education by splitting the players into small groups of 12-14 and breaking down the material into four parts; Drafting the right team around you; Saying No; Budgeting and savings; and Avoiding financial pitfalls. Ambassadors — Antoine Walker (retired NBA player) and Bart Scott (retired NFL player), will feature in the presentations as well.

A separate specialized session will be held for the family of the players, of whom will be a big influence in preparing their sons’ for the big adjustments that come with being a professional athlete . “Our focus over the last 3 years has been enhancing the players’ ability to raise their stock on the field and give them a picture of life off the field,” said Senior Bowl Exec Dir and former Browns and Ravens exec Phil Savage. “We want to provide an environment that gives them a head start with the 32 clubs. Obviously, having a financial partner on the ground the entire week is a big benefit.”

In addition to the financial education, Morgan Stanley will be presenting sponsor of the Senior Bowl practices. The Senior Bowl has been in talks with ESPN about televising the practices in Mobile. “We are so pleased to have Morgan Stanley Global Sports & Entertainment as our official financial education partner and a new premium sponsor for 2016,” Savage said. “Their dedicated division of experts will be here providing relevant information to the players and their families throughout the week as they face the possible challenge of managing newfound wealth.”
