Thomas Detry Signs With Excel Sports Management

Per a press release from the company, Professional golfer Thomas Detry has joined the elite group of clients at Excel Sports Management. He will be represented by Lance Young, who will manage Detry’s Tour responsibilities as well as all marketing and endorsement opportunities.

A 2016 graduate of The University of Illinois and native of Belgium, Detry is poised to claim his spot among the electrifying group of young golfers who have surged into the professional ranks over the past few years. His accolades to this point include being named the Big Ten Golfer of the Year and earning the Les Bolstad Award in 2015 as the conference’s season-low stroke average holder, receiving Academic All-Big Ten honors after his junior season and representing Europe in the 2014 Palmer Cup.

“We are excited to have Thomas as part of the Excel family. His natural talent and the effort he has committed to his game will serve him well as he transitions to this next level of his playing career,” said Mark Steinberg, partner, Excel Sports Management.

Closing out his final year at Illinois, Detry won the 2016 Individual Big Ten title, shooting a 10-under par 206 (70-72-64), including a final round 64 that tied a Big Ten Championship record. Detry became just the fifth player overall – and first since 2006 – to card a 64 in the Big Ten Championship.

“I am so thankful for my time at the University of Illinois and for the people and competitors who helped coach and challenge me to this point,” said Detry. “As I enter this next chapter, the opportunity to be with a company like Excel, with their expertise and track record, is priceless. I’m excited for what’s to come.”

Detry will make his professional debut this week in his home country of Belgium at the KPMG Trophy on the European Challenge Tour. He will be competing in numerous Challenge Tour and European Tour events in the upcoming months.
