On To The Next One: Mario Hezonja

Per Liz Mullen of SBJ, Orlando Magic guard/forward and the 5th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, Mario Hezonja has signed with CAA Sports, where he will be represented by a team of agents led by Michael Tellem. He was previously represented by Wasserman.

Tellem is the son of former agent Arn Tellem, who made headlines last year when he left Wasserman to become the vice chairman of Palace Sports & Entertainment, the group that owns the Detroit Pistons. He too joined CAA Sports after leaving Wasserman last year.

The 6’8″, 218 pound Hezonja declared for the 2015 NBA Draft after playing with Spanish club Barcelona since 2012 with who he started playing professionally as a 17 year old. He was nominated for the FIBA Europe Young Player of the Year Award in 2012, but Toronto Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas took the crown.

He began playing on the club level in his native Croatia at the age of 12, and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship, after leading his team with a double-double in the final and averaging 20 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists. He has also represented Croatia in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2015 EuroBasket.

In his rookie year, the 2015-16 NBA season, he played in 79 games averaging 6.1 PPG, 1.5 APG, and 2.2 RPG.
