On To The Next One: Houston Astros C Martin Maldonado

Houston Astros C Martin Maldonado has enlisted the expertise of  Scott Boras to navigate through his remaining days on an MLB roster before he enters free agency in about two months. The decision, reported by Jon Heynman, is important in figuring out whether or not Maldonado wants an extension with the Astros, who lack depth at the catcher position.

Despite playing a career-high 138 games with the Angels in 2017, Maldonaldo’s services were cut short midway through this season. Shortly after the 2018 MLB All-Star game, he was traded to Houston

Boras is baseball’s super-agent and thrives in free agency. He has previously pieced together some mammoth deals for clients such as J.D. Martinez (Boston) and Eric Hosmer (San Diego).

Maldonado spent the first six seasons of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, but is now on his third team in three seasons. With Boras’ help, he is looking to secure a long-term deal and establish roots with a team.
