Four Recent Patriot Acquisitions Have One Common Theme: Powerhouse Agent Drew Rosenhaus

Monday, March 15th was the beginning of the Legal Tampering Period for the 2021 NFL season and the New England Patriots got off to a blistering start. The Patriots, led by future Hall of Fame Head Coach Bill Belichick, traded for offensive tackle Trent Brown last week, and followed it up with key signings in Jonnu Smith, Davon Godchaux, and Jalen Mills on Monday.

These NFL players are all leaving different previous teams, but have one thing in common: powerhouse agent Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus has had a long history with Belichick which has enabled them to reach mutually beneficial deals. “I’ve known Coach Belichick for 30 years and that experience was beneficial to getting these deals done,” Rosenhaus said.

Rosenhaus has represented big name players such as Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown while negotiating deals with the New England Patriots in past years. This experience and history has surely contributed to the New England-Rosenhaus success this time around.

The newly acquired Patriots agreed to the following deals:

  • OT Trent Brown: Agreed to a one-year, $11 million contract extension, adding on to his existing two-year deal.
  • TE Jonnu Smith: Signed a four-year, $50 million contract with $31.25 million guaranteed
  • DT Davon Godchaux: Signed a two-year, $16 million contract with $9 million guaranteed
  • CB Jalen Mills: Signed a four-year, $24 million contract with $9 million guaranteed

Thanks in large part to these contracts negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus, the New England Patriots have already spent their most guaranteed money on free agents in any offseason over the last decade. And there is surely more to come.
