I just got back from my trip to Washington D.C. (in case you were wondering what was up with the absence of posts as of late). I kind of fell in love with the city. Anyway, expect the posts to start up again now, and as always, if you have any stories to contribute or […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.

Danica Patrick has not yet won a single Indy Racing League event, but has received a new endorsement from GoDaddy.com [IRL Driver Danica Patrick Signs Sponsor deal with GoDaddy.com]. Here are some things that Danica had to say when she was introduced as GoDaddy.com’s spokesperson on Dec. 5 at Phoenix International Raceway: “I’ve been a […]
Dunn For 18 Months
In the past, I reported on the fact that David Isn’t Dunn Yet and how David may be Dunn, But Not Dead after Kyle Boller decided to pick him up for representation. Well Frank Gore saw the future for David Dunn, which will not be so bright for the next 18 months. Sports Law Blog […]
Foul Balls takes a look at some of the early baseball contracts that have been signed this off season before the Winter Meetings. For anyone who thought that salaries might go down in the only sport without a salary cap, you may want to think again [Major League Baseball Is Out of Its Mind]. -Darren […]
The Sports Law Blog has updated its list of self-identified Sports Law Professors at U.S. law schools around the country. Self-identified Sports Law Professors may not be experts in sports law, and many who are experts may have decided against identifying themselves as such. Anyway, this could be a useful tool for those of you […]
Check out USATODAY.com’s great table for the Top 25 Final Coaches’ Ballots. One thing that caught my eye was where FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger ranked Louisiana State University. Maybe LSU does not deserve to be ranked #4 overall, but ranking them #15 is stretching it. He also put #8 Oklahoma as his #18 ranked team. […]
Value must be placed on an athlete’s ability to perform on a football field, basketball court, baseball diamond, etc, but having a strong education should also be a factor that is considered when trying to woo a client to your agency. Derrick Z. Jackson of the Boston Globe has just released a chart that displays […]
Just got back from Atlanta in time to watch the Florida Gators get the bid to play in the National Championship. I will definitely do my best to get my hands on a ticket or two! Here are your nightmare clients: 1. Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons flicked off some fans and was fined […]
A Good Type Of OverTime..
I like writing about successful University of Miami alumni [Some Miami Hurricanes Actually Do Good..]. In this case, I would like to highlight Ryan McNeil, someone who should get more credit off the field than he ever received playing football (although he was an All-American). Ryan McNeil is genuinely concerned about athletes and their ability […]
College Sports Domination
Before tonight’s loss to UNC, Ohio State was ranked #1 in basketball and football. Florida was ranked #4 in basketball and football. When is the last time that two top athletic institutions had the same rank in both basketball and football? Even though OSU lost, they looked mighty good without their freshman star, Greg Oden. […]
