My new website The Sports Biz is off to a great start (too many articles to list below). And it’s just a start. I see it growing beyond some of the competing “sports biz” sites and, importantly, focusing on quality over quantity. Reminder to follow the official Twitter account here. Not off to such a […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
So I moved on from writing at Forbes after 6+ years of covering the intersection of sports and money (more on that here) to create a new website that is strictly devoted to same (TheSports.Biz) and would appreciate a follow of the website’s new Twitter account (@TheSportsDotBiz). I’m excited about the new project and have […]
Earlier today, the NCAA released a statement on college basketball reforms. Here are the bullet points that will most interest the sports agent community: Elite high school basketball recruits and college players can be represented by an agent who can help them make informed decisions about going pro. They can be represented by an agent beginning […]
Professional football is back! It will be a while until we get anything worthwhile to watch on TV, but just the thought of the NFL returning and fantasy football drafts on the horizon is exciting. I’ll be heading out to Miami Dolphins practice on Saturday to see quite a few of my Heitner Legal clients. […]
Training Camp has officially begun for most NFL teams and thus we are entering the best season of the year — football season. But particularly right now is when morale is high and there is reason to be optimistic. Teams have no wins, but more importantly no losses. It was a pleasure of mine to […]
My two-week cruise and Santorini vacation was a blast, but it is good to be back. The vacation took me from Venice to Dubrovnik to Olympia to Athens to Split and then finally five nights in Santorini. If you want to see some pics, you can follow me on Instagram. It was definitely a needed […]
Sports agent Happy Walters is diversifying beyond the representation of professional athletes. The CEO and Co-Founder of Catalyst Sports & Media who represents many professional basketball players including the San Antonio Spurs’ first-round 2018 Draft pick Lonnie Walker is getting involved with a blockchain project. Of course, he has read a bitcoin revolution review as […]
The 2018 NFL season is a matter of months away now and the pundits are out in full force predicting their teams to beat next season. Naturally, many are going with the 2018 Super Bowl finalists as the ones to watch, with both the Patriots and Eagles favorites with the bookies. Tony Romo, the former […]
Nothing like having a full vacation planned only to find out mere days before leaving that the very first leg of your trip has been cancelled. Yeah, I had to deal with that a couple days ago when the airline decided to just scrap my flight, the only flight of that day and the only […]
I feel like I have been going at 100mph since coming back from my Honeymoon in January, so thankfully I will be heading on a couple week vacation at the beginning of July. Thus, expect a short moratorium from the weekly wrap-up during that period. Things are going very well at the law firm as […]
