So you hear about them all the time before the start of new NFL seasons, but do you actually know the definition of an NFL Franchise Tag? If not, this post should shed some light on the issue. Each year, an NFL team may designate one of its impending Free Agent’s to be a “Franchise […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
Don’t do crack, even if you are Randy Moss’s Agent.
Some Hope for Future U.S. Soccer Agents?
First of all, if you are interested in learning about the comparison between America’s pastime (baseball) and the rest of the world’s pastime (soccer), you should definitely read an amazing book called, National Pastime: How Americans Play Baseball and the Rest of the World Plays Soccer by Stefan Szymanski and Andrew Zimbalist. The book goes […]
Red Pill or Blue Pill?
So aside from seeing Laurence Fishburn in Las Vegas this past week (see: Subject of this post), there has been a little bit of discussion in the NFL about “Poison Pills.” Like myself, I imagine that the general public had no idea what a “Poison Pill” was in this context, and still may have absolutely […]
After taking a hiatus from the press (did anybody notice?), Drew Rosenhaus was able to sign his client, Terrell Owens, to a 3-year, $25 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys. That $25 million is broken down into a $5 million bonus up front and $5 for his first season with the Cowboys. Terrell will actually […]
Vegas = Amazing
Well I am back from Las Vegas, but I wish that I could have stayed for atleast another week. If you were interested, I ended up making some money off the casinos overall by playing poker, but ended up spending a ridiculous amount of money at the nightclubs. Oh well. I have a bunch of […]
Viva Las Vegas!
I will be in Las Vegas for the next week for my Spring Break. Don’t get too sad now. In about a week I will be back with a slue of new posts. Hopefully Nicholas will back me up this next week and provide you all with some interesting news/research. Pray that I make some […]
The CBA has officially been extended for another 6 years. The 2006 salary cap should now be $104 million instead of the $94.5 million cap that would have existed had a deal not been struck. This will save a lot of players the anguish of being cut by their respective teams. You had to figure […]
It’s Not The ‘Size’ That Matters
This is absolutely great PR. Grady Sizemore, of the Cleveland Indians, has a huge following of ladies called “Grady’s Ladies.” They have a website: The Grady’s Ladies Sisterhood. In addition, the Cleveland Indians have made a lot of money selling “Mrs. Sizemore” t-shirts and benefitted from a 200% increase in female Indians game viewers last […]
Free Agency in the NFL has ONCE AGAIN been extended right before the deadline was reached (last scheduled for Midnight Sunday). With a 72 hour delay on the start of free agency, it seems as though one of 2 outcomes are plausible. On Wednesday at Midnight, free agency will begin or there will be yet […]
