Role Model Clients: Michael Strahan, Conrad Dobler, Annie Duke

Welcome to the first installment of Role Model Clients. The posts under this heading will not have its own category, but will be placed in the Philanthropy category instead (I decided against doing a separate Honorable Clients of the Week column). This will not be a weekly post. I will post Role Model Clients every so often (probably every other Saturday…but don’t hold me to it).

1) Purchase, NY is the setting for the 2nd annual celebrity golf tournament hosted in part by Michael Strahan of the New York Giants. The tournament will be held on July 9th and all money received will go towards SCAN, a child welfare pathfinder in the establishment of a school-based presence [New York Giants’ Michael Strahan and Dreier LLP to Host Charity Golf Tournament at Century Country Club on July 9].

2) Once known as “Pro Football’s Dirtiest Player,” Conrad Dobler is now an advocate for retired football players [E-ticket: A Dirty Shame].  He is trying to help retired players receive more benefits, disability claims, and overall respect from the NFLPA.

3) Poker season is in full swing with the opening of the 2007 World Series of Poker this past week.  On July 5th, though, some poker players and actors joined up to help out Darfur.  Poker pro, Annie Duke, and actor Don Cheadle founded Ante Up for Africa to help fight the genocide in Darfur, and held their first charitable tournament on the 5th [Giving back].

By Darren Heitner

Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.

Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
