Per a press release, Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack has signed a sponsorship agreement with Mack Trucks. The 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year will play a role in the truck brand’s major news announcement in September.
Mack Trucks are known for their durability, reliability and meeting the needs of customers. The company, part of the Volvo Group, is one of North America’s largest producers of heavy-duty trucks. While not typically sold in dealerships to customers and only marketed towards the trucking trade media, Khalil Mack’s story aligns with the brand.
The Fort Pierce, Florida-native was not highly recruited out of high school, ultimately attending the University at Buffalo. All the doubt and low rankings served as a motivating factor, which clearly worked. His college career was full of accolades including the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and numerous school and NCAA records. His hard work led to him becoming the fifth overall pick by the Raiders in the 2014 NFL Draft.
While his endorsement portfolio includes more common athletic brands such as Nike and New Era, a unique endorsement with Mack Trucks comes from a unique source. According to Darren Rovell, Golden State Warriors power forward texted Mack one day and said “You should do a deal with Mack,” and the wheels (both literally and figuratively) were set in motion. Mack reached out to his agent, Joel Segal, and asked him to make a connection.
