Here at I Want to be a Sports Agent, we would much rather cover players when they do things to help out the community and thus strengthen their image. Much too often, the media prefers to highlight when players are convicted of DUIs and fail drug tests. Hey, we do it too!
Anyway, today I would like to highlight Santana Moss, and his love for children. In 2002, he created the Santana Moss Foundation, and he continues to promote the non-profit organization to this day.
Recently, my hometown newspaper (The Miami Herald) ran a story on Moss’s distribution of a comic book that features superhero TanaMan (alterego of Santana Moss). Santana Moss’s foundation has printed 5,000 copies of the comic book.
The comic stresses the importance of staying in school and obtaining an undergraduate degree whether you are an athlete or not. Santana Moss is a living TanaMan, who stayed at the University of Miami for 4 years even though he could have left early and made big figures at a younger age. Moss plans to create characters out of some of his former UM teammates and hopes that the continued circulation of the comic will entice underprivileged children to stay in school and obtain a proper education.
This is a story about a player who knows how to maintain a good image, but above all else, truly cares about the cause he is supporting. Kudos, Mr. Moss!
