Greetings from Valparaiso Law School, where I will be speaking on a couple of panels with great friends in the Sports Law community. On tap for today is a discussion on breaking in to the Sports Law industry and a general debate with my buddy Marc Edelman on the world of fantasy sports. Speaking of fantasy sports, the week has been full of TV and radio requests along with work for HEITNER LEGAL clients in the space. I wrote a few articles on the subject of the New York Attorney General sending a cease and desist demand to FanDuel and DraftKings, which you can find on my Forbes column. Here are some sports agent/business stories you may have missed over the past week:
Football
- Eric Berry among those helping himself out [Agent’s Take: Contract-year players who are helping, hurting themselves].
Baseball
- Scott Boras will supposedly not be involved in future conversations with the team [Marlins feud with agent Scott Boras over Ozuna, Fernandez].
- Apparently a job well done by CAA agent Brodie Van Wagenen [White Sox impressed by Cespedes presentation].
Soccer
- Not a positive view of those who represent soccer stars [Dodgy, slimy and treacherous agents remain the rogue traders of football].
Hockey
- Marleau used to rep himself, but is now with Pat Brisson [Purdy: Why Patrick Marleau will remain in Sharks’ teal for a while yet].
