Let’s stay on the theme of the MLB Draft for now. After all, it is only two weeks away! One team that should be on every advisor’s mind (if he is advising a player with early round talent), is the Toronto Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have 10 picks in the first 4 rounds, including the 11th pick in the first round and a whopping 3 picks in the first sandwich round and 3 picks in the second round.
If you have seen Toronto’s GM, Alex Anthopoulos, at one of your player’s games recently, that is definitely a good sign. Word is that he is traveling quite a lot lately, trying to see some of the best players in the nation in person.
Expect a healthy mixture of high school and college players to be taken with those 10 early picks. There is no way that the Blue Jays will be able to afford a heavy high school draft strategy on the front load. You may see some talented college seniors taken early by the Blue Jays in order to save some money on signing bonus expenditures.
