Legendary Penn State University football coach Joe Paterno has received a 3-year contract extension which will carry him through the 2011 season. The 84-year old is the winningest coach in in college football history. Paterno just had hip replacement surgery which prompted many to speculate that he may not return for the 2009 season.
There is a clause in Paterno’s contract which allows both parties to renegotiate the length of the contract as needed. His reported salary last year was $512,000 not including bonuses or any outside income. Just as a comparison, Alabama head coach Nick Saban’s contract reportedly gives him $4-million a year.
One thing is for sure, Joe Paterno is a legend at Penn State and will celebrate his 60th year at Penn State next season.
