The Miami Dolphins are 2-0. Didn’t think I would be writing that. And they actually have a decent chance to start off the season 3-0 with a match-up against an Oakland Raiders team that appears to be in disarray. Happy New Year to everyone who observed Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur over the past couple […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
Greetings from Chicago, where I’ll be for the weekend for a wedding. Part of the trip is taking in my first-ever Chicago Cubs game tomorrow. My Dolphins are off to a surprising 1-0 start after breaking a record for the longest game ever. I stayed through the first delay and half way through the second delay […]
The NFL regular season is officially underway and it feels like the world is back on its regular orbit (if you’re able to ignore all the political drama going on in Washington D.C.). Speaking of football, the talk of the week was undoubtedly Nike’s new advertisements featuring Colin Kaepernick, who may be making more money […]
Happy end of the month and I wish you all an enjoyable Labor Day weekend. I have completed two of my fantasy drafts by now and I’m already spent. What’s interesting is that I think as sports betting expands, it may drastically reduce the amount of interest in daily/weekly fantasy sports, but season-long (particularly with […]
Another solid week of The Sports Biz. Thanks to everyone who has supported the new website and followed it on Twitter. Exciting news about Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson doing a pay-per-view head-to-head event in November. Interesting discussions among NFL agents occurred this week that I touched upon in a blog post. To be clear, […]
Earlier today, roughly 300 NFL agents joined a conference call to discuss the state of being a representative for professional football players. The conversation began with one agent stating, “I wish I had two more hands to give the NFL Players Association four thumbs down” and ended with the call leader, NFL agent Peter Schaffer, […]
My new website The Sports Biz is off to a great start (too many articles to list below). And it’s just a start. I see it growing beyond some of the competing “sports biz” sites and, importantly, focusing on quality over quantity. Reminder to follow the official Twitter account here. Not off to such a […]
So I moved on from writing at Forbes after 6+ years of covering the intersection of sports and money (more on that here) to create a new website that is strictly devoted to same (TheSports.Biz) and would appreciate a follow of the website’s new Twitter account (@TheSportsDotBiz). I’m excited about the new project and have […]
Earlier today, the NCAA released a statement on college basketball reforms. Here are the bullet points that will most interest the sports agent community: Elite high school basketball recruits and college players can be represented by an agent who can help them make informed decisions about going pro. They can be represented by an agent beginning […]
Professional football is back! It will be a while until we get anything worthwhile to watch on TV, but just the thought of the NFL returning and fantasy football drafts on the horizon is exciting. I’ll be heading out to Miami Dolphins practice on Saturday to see quite a few of my Heitner Legal clients. […]
