Only a couple of days until I make my first voyage to Singapore, which I hear is just an absolutely gorgeous country. As excited as I am, being away for a week, especially from my little dog Charli, is tough. But at least the wifey is coming on the trip with me. Happy Mother’s Day […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
How do you like our new look? Every so often, it feels like it’s time for a facelift, and you’ll find that the changes here aren’t all that big. But hopefully the site loads a bit faster, is easier to read on iPads and mobile phones and just looks a little better. Hopefully everyone has […]
A recent Washington Post article includes the following paragraph within: There are about 830 agents certified by the NFL Players Association — more than one for every three players in or around the league — which makes it a brutally competitive business. Roughly 75 percent of NFL players are represented by just 17 percent of all certified agents, […]
This week, NFL agent Jack Mills was a guest of Andrew Brandt on his Business of Sports podcast. Mills isn’t one of the oft discussed agents on this website, but has been in the business for over 40 years. However, he hasn’t been as active in representing players as of late … until this year. His […]
Former University of Miami offensive tackle Ereck Flowers has hired Drew Rosenhaus has his agent. Flowers was previously unrepresented. The offensive tackle for the New York Giants was drafted ninth overall in 2015. He went into that year’s draft unrepresented. Soon after being picked, Pro Football Talk’s Michael David Smith commented that, “it’s a little surprising […]
Coming off of a 2018 NFL Draft where it represented a few players selected including the #2 overall pick Saquon Barkley, Roc Nation Sports is announcing a couple of members of its 2018 NBA Draft class. The company that represents current NBA players like Kevin Durant and Justise Winslow has added Michigan foward Moritz Wagner […]
Shabbat Shalom: Friday Wrap-up (4/27/18)
Hungover from Day 1 of the 2018 NFL Draft? I made the crazy decision of signing up for spin class at 7 a.m. this morning, before my body was fully adjusted back to the eastern time zone after a week-long trip in Vegas (by the way, a full week in Las Vegas is way too […]
Happy 4/20 day? Greetings from Las Vegas, my home away from home. I’m currently recovering from a meat hangover, so excuse my tardiness on the weekly column. There was a lot of fanfare over the NFL schedule relese last night, which was pretty much all I was able to watch while traveling from Fort Lauderdale […]
Let’s see what happened this past week. We had the news of the 4 major players associations deciding that they were going to break silence on their position concerning sports betting. They want a seat at the table when it comes to discussions over how players’ image rights will be used, which means they want some […]
I suppose the big story of the week was NFL offensive lineman Richie Incognito firing his agency, Athletes First, via Twitter. Interestingly enough, it wasn’t the first time he took to Twitter to terminate his relationship with the sports agency (soon thereafter rethinking that decision). Otherwise, the large sports agent-related story is the fact that […]
