I’m tired. I spent the entire week in Brooklyn for depositions in a pending federal court trademark infringement lawsuit. Now, I’m on a plan headed to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. I guess life could be worse! How about those Miami Dolphins? Always finding a way to choke. Story of my life rooting for […]

Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
The start of college football started off strong, which continued with the beginning of the NFL regular season. Most memorable is an amazing Notre Dame vs. Texas match-up from last weekend. But how about the ending for the Denver Broncos, just squeezing by the Carolina Panthers to win the NFL opener? There is a lot […]
College football is back (would have really enjoyed an early Tennessee loss), the NFL preseason is done and it’s time to enjoy a nice, long Labor Day weekend. Unfortunately, I have to do some traveling on Labor Day. Back to Washington D.C. for NFLPA-related arbitration work. In fact, September is going to be full of […]
There is a lot of attention on the sports agent industry based on NFL rookie Joey Bosa refusing to sign a contract provided by the San Diego Chargers – the team that took him in the 2016 NFL Draft. These rookie contracts are structurally standard with only a few small points for negotiation. The dispute […]
Back home in Fort Lauderdale this week and it was hard to keep up with what was happening in the sports world with all the catching up and new business at Heitner Legal. I suppose that’s a good thing. I had been away for roughly 10 days, first in Seattle and then on a 7 […]
Good morning from Seattle! This is my first time in the city, and I won’t be here for long. Tomorrow, I’ll be headed on my first Alaskan cruise. Don’t expect too much Tweeting or posting out of me for the next week, and it is highly likely that I skip next Friday’s Shabbat Shalom. But […]
Training camp. It signals the true start of NFL. And it makes us all get a little giddy as the NFL season approaches. This is the time where we all have even just the slightest amount of hope that our teams will exceed expectations. More hope than many of us have for whomever will be […]
Not much going on in sports this past week, unless you consider the Republican National Convention a sporting event, which wouldn’t be entirely inaccurate. It’s the dead of Summer, with baseball and not much else until the Olympics roll around. Thankfully, there is some great TV to watch, including Suits, Mr. Robot and The Night […]
The dead of Summer has not hit South Florida. After over two years in business, we could not be busier at Heitner Legal. Quick shout out to Inside The League, a publication I love, for getting on board as a partner of Sports Agent Blog. I thought it was funny that the Daily Mail decided to cite my […]
It still stings. I have justified the loss of Dwyane Wade as a wise business decision for the Miami Heat organization, but I spent 13 years of my life rooting for him as he wore a Heat jersey. I am one of the rare born-and-raised South Floridians. I cheer for the Miami Dolphins and Miami […]
