I am back from many travels and will not be hitting the road again until next week, when I head to New York to participate in the 2016 Sports Law for Rookies and Veterans event. I guess the big news this week is that I am representing Baltimore Ravens running back Terrance West in a […]

Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
You would be hard-pressed to find an athlete with more influence on the Michigan State basketball program than former Spartan and current Golden State Warrior Draymond Green. Earlier this year, Green made a record $3.1 million donation to the school’s athletic department. Two days ago, I assisted Green in applying for a trademark covering “Sagnasty,” […]
“I’m not testing the waters or anything like that. I’m all in,” said University of Connecticut basketball player Daniel Hamilton to The Courant. Hamilton made it clear that he will enter the NBA Draft and sign with an agent. He has not yet announced the name of the agent or agency that he will retain. […]
Unfortunately, the following is no April Fool’s joke. The agent community has lost a very valuable member in the passing of NFLPA certified Contract Advisor Eugene Parker. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Parker lost his battle with kidney cancer. He leaves behind many family members, friends and clients whom adored him, including Jairus Byrd, who […]
Philly two weeks ago, Chicago last week, and finally a weekend of relation on tap. Heading out to Las Vegas next Wednesday for my annual trip to kick off March Madness. Then Austin, Texas the week after that. It’s contract negotiation season for NFL players, with some very exciting announcements coming through the pipeline this […]
I’m out here in the Windy City (Chicago) for a full day of fantasy sports. I will be speaking, along with many other very qualified sports lawyers, at the 26th Annual DePaul Law Review Symposium: Daily Fantasy Sports and Sports Gambling. It was a crazy week of working for new clients and fully satisfying the […]
I really enjoyed being a part of a panel on daily fantasy sports last week at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. It was a top notch event with fantastic panelists and moderators. However, I was happy to get in and out as fast as possible, as this body does not handle cold quite well. […]
Good morning from chilly Philadelphia. I got in last night so that I can speak on a panel today regarding daily fantasy sports alongside others who have made quite a name for themselves in the industry. I’m back to Fort Lauderdale this evening to celebrate my mother’s birthday. It was nice seeing some friends last […]
The trip from Fort Lauderdale to Eugene, Oregon is painful, but it was a joy to provide a Keynote Speech to the many law students interested in Sports and Entertainment Law. Thanks goes out to the whole crew for putting on a fantastic event. Then came the Super Bowl and all of its wonders. And […]
Today I am traveling south to guest lecture in Professor Peter Carfagna’s Sports Law class at the University of Miami Law School. The Harvard Law professor who teaches this class for two weeks wants me to discuss NCAA Amateurism Issues and Agent Regulation Statutes and Rules. That seems manageable. Next week, I am off to […]
