Last week and weekend, I was in Atlanta supporting a HEITNER LEGAL client My Mixtapez at the A3C Festival & Conference. It was a blast to be there in attendance and meet many notable artists and labels in the hip-hop scene. Another exciting moment was accepting an invitation to lead a new sports business beat […]

Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
Baseball players beware; not every person holding himself out as a baseball agent actually has the capacity to help you progress your career. New York Yankees Minor League Baseball (MiLB) player Angelo Gumbs found that out the hard way, according to a complaint that he has filed against an individual he claims stole upward of […]
Many sports agents, particularly NFL Players Association certified Contract Advisors, prefer to remain “behind closed doors,” away from the spotlight and focused on recruiting new clientele with in-person meetings. Sometimes, an agent bucks the general trend and makes himself available to the general public, whether it be through Twitter, on air interviews or otherwise. Here, […]
Kansas City Royals designated hitter Kendrys Morales has signed with Wasserman Media Group. The signing was reported by Robert Murray of BaseballEssential.com and later confirmed by Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Morales was previously represented by Scott Boras. Boras was Morales’ agent when he was a top free agent in 2014. That year, Boras was tasked to come to […]
This past NFL offseason, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh signed a 6-year, $114.375 million contract with the Miami Dolphins. A total of roughly $60 million of that amount is guaranteed to reach Suh’s bank account. What he does with that money thereafter is up to him and his financial planners. Suh’s agent should win sports agent […]
Well I’m back from a wildly successful trip to Las Vegas, but a bit upset that I will not be in Gainesville this weekend cheering on the Florida Gators against Ole Miss. I hope they can hear my screams from Fort Lauderdale. Next week, I’m back on the road and headed to Atlanta, where I […]
I have been provided the opportunity to sit in on a class taught by ESPN and Sports Illustrated writer Andrew Brandt that is called “Business and Legal Aspects of Professional Sports.” Brandt is teaching the class through Villanova University’s online offering, which makes it easy for anyone to access the content. This article is part […]
The lovely holiday of Rosh Hashanah is behind us and now we must brace for Yom Kippur. I wish all observing Yom Kippur an easy fast. The Republican debate on CNN has become a fun excuse to gather for part of my family. Between that and the NFL, my attention outside of Heitner Legal has […]

Yes, I’m back. Hopefully on a permanent basis, but you never know. Multiple businesses, writing at Forbes, teaching at the University of Florida and University of Florida Levin College of Law, among other things, have kept me extremely occupied. But I can never forget about my baby, Sports Agent Blog. I also will never forget about the significance […]
