What: As an agent, you should always be interested in helping your clients raise money for charity. I personally find charity to be so important, that Dynasty lists it as one of the prongs of Services that we strive to provide. The Giving Back Fund, in conjunction with USC’s Sports Business Institute, is putting together […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com put together a nice early list that posits which highly ranked 2008 NFL Draft players will sign with which agents. This is an interesting look at who some of the names on Paul Schackman’s most recent mock draft will be signing with. You better believe that Dynasty will be on next […]
Remember when the Goldman Family (in particular, Fred and Kim Goldman: father and sister of Ron Goldman) came out with the hypothetically based book that was taken from O.J.’s words: If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer? O.J. Simpson must have felt that he was getting absolutely no love after his lawyers convinced America […]
This week’s Friday Wrap-Up is coming to you live from the Reitz Auditorium at the University of Florida. The UF Sports Symposium is underway, and it has been a great success thus far. Other exciting news: Tomorrow is my birthday! Anyway, here are some stories that I looked over during this past week: Curtis Granderson […]
In Fall 2003, Mark Doman wrote a piece in the Texas Review Of Entertainment & Sports Law titled, Attorneys As Athlete-Agents: Reconciling the ABA Rules of Professional Conduct with the Practice of Athlete Representation. I have not been able to find a free version of the article, but if you have access to LexisNexis or […]
Introducing Kenji Summers
While I am definitely not pursuing the addition of new contributors to SportsAgentBlog.com – I Want to be a Sports Agent, occasionally, a perfect fit falls into my lap and I am unable to say no. While I am happy to be introducing a new contributor, I will unfortunately at the same time be saying […]
Ryan Howard’s agent, Larry Reynolds Casey Close, is spending hours each day (or delegating that responsibility to someone else) preparing a case to prove that Howard deserves $10 million instead of the $7 million that the Phillies want to compensate him for his efforts. The system is called arbitration, but why is it used and […]
A little over a year ago, Ryan Howard dropped his agent Larry Reynolds of Reynolds Sports Management in favor of Casey Close, who works for CAA. Howard was coming off of an MVP year and was hoping for another stellar season so that he could go to arbitration with Close and get a monumental deal. […]
Rypien To Monk!
There was a stage in my life while I was growing from a boy into a young man, that I was a die hard Redskins fan. For some reason, I forgot my allegiances to the Dolphins, followed by the Giants, and started cheering for the red, white, and yellow. My two favorite players during that […]
It looks like a 40-year-old, 17 year NFL veteran has finally called it quits. Jeff George was the #1 overall pick in 1990 who then managed to make his way onto 8 different team rosters before his recent retirement. Disclaimer: Vinny Testaverde recently came back to the league and finished the 2007 NFL season at […]
