Nothing like Monday Night Football, especially when you are barely losing in your big fantasy football league and you have one player left who may push you over the top. Often times, it will be a kicker or third WR, but you still think you have a shot. Anyway, I was sent the above video, […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
MySpace, A Place For Branding
Look at the Social Networking category and you will note that I am a firm believer in the positive power that the web can have for an athlete’s persona and reputation. At the same time, screw up and make your online identity suspect, and you can leave yourself open to massive criticism. MySpace.com is a […]
Bizarro Joakim Noah (Anderson Varejao) may be heading back to the United States sooner than anticipated. After terrible contract negotiations between Varejao, his agent (Dan Fegan), and Cleveland Cavaliers GM, Danny Ferry, Varejao looks to end up back with Cavs for at least the next two years. Last week, I covered the Varejao case and […]
This coming Friday would be a good day to just happen to be walking the grounds of Princeton University. That is because Princeton University will be hosting a half-day sports symposium, featuring an amazing list of speakers. The event begins at 1PM, December 7 and will take place at Robertson Hall. Brett D. Yormark, president […]
Morton’s Steakhouse? Capital Grille? Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse? Those are so old school. Next time you are going to sit down with an owner to sign a multi-million dollar deal for your client, do it at a fast food joint! That’s the setting for Torii Hunter’s contractual negotiations. Larry Reynolds of Reynolds Sports Management does not […]
Sports Business Carnival #5
Head over to Take a Peck and check out the newest edition of Sports Business Carnival. [Sports Business Carnival #5]. I Want to be a Sports Agent made it into the carnival with our recent post arguing that athletes should continue to have full-time agents and that an hourly fee based relationship should only be […]
Missouri And West VA Lose, BCS Anarchy
Having finals to study for allows me to stay home and watch the big Saturday night games. Pittsburgh beat WVU in West Virginia and Oklahoma has less than 10 minutes left before the Sooners pull off a big win against Mizzou. Here are my early BCS predictions: BCS Championship – Ohio State vs. LSU Rose […]
It’s my last Friday Wrap-Up before first year, first semester, law school finals begin. Some days I wake up and freak out about how little I am preparing compared to my colleagues. Other times, I feel fairly confident. Anyway, if my posting slows down in the next couple weeks, don’t hold it against me. I’m […]
Four NFL players have died this year, all of them just 24 years young. Sean Taylor is the most recent victim to be taken out of our world. How may a sports agent protect his client and the client’s family in case of the unfortunate circumstance of an early death? Andy Zimmerman, a financial consultant […]
Anderson Varejao looks and plays like a bizarro Joakim Noah to me. That being said, you may have noticed (but probably not, because you have been so focused on LeBron James) that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been without Varejao since the beginning of the 2007-08 NBA season. His absence did not hurt the Cavs much […]
