Don’t ask me how I have time to run a sports agency, post to this blog, read over 1,000 sports news stories per day, build AccessAthletes, go to law school, read for law school…and still manage to have time to read for pleasure. Well, okay…you can ask me…but my response will be that I am […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
Honestly, I thought that I could post on the topic once and be over with it [Are You Ready For Your Yankees Fix?]. I was obviously wrong. While the Boston Red Sox have just overcome a 3-1 margin to beat the Cleveland Indians to make the World Series and while the Colorado Rockies have won […]

NBA: Northwest Division Previews
I am participating in a big collaborative effort by some of the top bloggers across the web to provide previews to the 2008 NBA season. As always, I have been designated as a representative for the Miami Heat. The assigned date for my post is October 23rd (it is coming up!). Until then (and after […]
Review of PMbuzz.com
Sponsored Post: I Want to be a Sports Agent is a sports site, and more specifically covers one main niche in the industry of sports. Thus, you may be wondering why I am covering an entertainment-based social networking site called PMbuzz.com. For one thing, sports and entertainment are becoming closer aligned every day. Take a […]

Bust out your yarmulkes and start slicing the challah. It is time for your Friday wrap up of links that I failed to cover during the week. Jerome Brown of San Clemente, California pleaded not guilty after being accused of forming fake businesses to defraud other companies out of about $450,000. His lawyer claims that […]
In Chris Lesley’s Sept 24-31 Wash Up column, he mentioned that Jacksonville, Florida based sports agent Michael Huyghue has handed back his NFLPA agent license in order to head up a new football league: the United Football League (UFL). In fact, Huyghue seems to be leaving it all behind with the hope that the UFL […]
My buddy Nate Jones, a fellow 1L at the University of California Los Angeles and owner of JONES ON THE NBA, asked me to pass this along: UCLA School of Law seeks sports agents (particularly MLB, NBA, NFL) to participate in a panel slated for Thurs., Nov. 13th. The topic will center around the paternalistic […]
