From the 2nd post ever on I Want to be a Sports Agent (made on January 1, 2006) to this day, I have stressed the importance of having an internship in the sports agent industry if this is truly the job that you envision yourself having in the future. I have mentioned it in many […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.

That leaves Asante Samuel and Lance Briggs in the dust (as far as long-term contracts are concerned), with both players threatening to hold out until the 10th […]

An Industry Of Conglomerates
For a long time, IMG stood alone as the behemoth in an industry made up of smaller boutique agencies. Athletes were not making near the money that they make today, and agencies were making a fraction of the commission dollars that they now earn. IMG had an advantage, it was a mega sports agency that […]
August 15th is only a month away now, and is the last day for MLB teams to sign their 2007 draft picks. On June 27, I wrote a post concerning the shrinkage of signing bonuses for this year’s crop of players [2007 MLB Amateur Draft Signing Bonuses]. At that point, I mentioned that bonuses were […]

Thus, I bring to you a Friday wrap-up, of the biggest sports agent […]

I will be heading to Buloxi, Mississippi today (Sunday) until Wednesday evening on a gambling vacation with my father. It is kind of a nice way to lose $500 win $3,000 before I enter some place called law school in the fall. Thus, expect no posts from me until Thursday. However, if the lovely contributors […]
