Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
Welcome to the first installment of Role Model Clients. The posts under this heading will not have its own category, but will be placed in the Philanthropy category instead (I decided against doing a separate Honorable Clients of the Week column). This will not be a weekly post. I will post Role Model Clients every […]
I have not yet taken Contract Law (I still have about 1 month of freedom before I am launched into the pits of Law School hell), but I did learn some information about contracts when I took a Sports Law class while completing my undergraduate degree. I learned that there is such a thing as […]
Sports blog, SimonOnSports, believes that NBA agent Marc Cornstein must be on crack. It may not be crack, but it must be something. Cornstein, a sports agent at Pinnacle Management, represents 3 players taken in the 2007 NBA Draft: Petteri Koponen, Stanko Barac, and Milovan Rakovic [The 2007 NBA Sports Agent Draft]. None of them […]
If I asked you right after the 2007 NFL Draft who you thought would be the first player selected in the first-round to sign, you probably would not have said Greg Olsen. Not because he is a former Miami Hurricane or because he is a tight end, but because his agent is Drew Rosenhaus. Looks […]
Back on May 25th, only one day after I returned from the Holy Land (Israel), I pondered whether the Portland Trail Blazers should select Greg Oden or Kevin Durant based on more than just their playing skills [Who Will Blaze The Trail?]. At the time, I was led to believe that Greg Oden looked older […]
What A Delicious Beating
I hope everyone had a wonderful July 4th full of fireworks, corn, and hot dogs. Speaking of hot dogs, Joey Chestnut broke the world record for amount of hot dogs consumed within a 12 minute period. This all went down at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Championship [Today, A Victory For America]. Way to take […]
The 4th of July is a once-a-year holiday that reminds me just how lucky I am to be living in the United States. Every day, I am reminded about how lucky I am to be surrounded with such an excellent group of contributors on this blog. For the past week, I have been working hard […]
Interview With The Athlete By Matthew Vuckovich Readers first wanted interviews with actual agents, so we brought you Interview With The Agent. But that was not enough. Then readers requested interviews with athletes, so Interview With The Athlete was born. Recently, we interviewed the #4 overall pick in the 2007 MLB Entry Draft, Daniel Moskos. […]
I am definitely not the first person to cover the story on sports agent, Scott Boras, lobbying the MLB to change the World Series format to a best of 9 series with the first 2 games played at a neutral site. I personally have held off on discussing the matter, because while it does include […]
