Hi everyone, this is my first post and I am very excited to be a part of this website. First and foremost I would like to give a big thanks to Darren for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts and stories with everyone that views this web page. A topic to think about […]
Author: Darren Heitner
Darren Heitner created Sports Agent Blog as a New Year's Resolution on December 31, 2005. Originally titled, "I Want To Be A Sports Agent," the website was founded with the intention of causing Heitner to learn more about the profession that he wanted to join, meet reputable individuals in the space and force himself to stay on top of the latest news and trends.
Heitner now runs Heitner Legal, P.L.L.C., which is a law firm with many practice areas, including sports law and contract law. Heitner has represented numerous athletes and sports agents as legal counsel. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Indiana University Bloomington from 2011-2014, where he created and taught a course titled, Sport Agency Management, which included subjects ranging from NCAA regulations to athlete agent certification and the rules governing the profession. Heitner serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Florida Levin College of Law, where he teaches a Sports Law class that includes case law surrounding athlete agents and the NCAA rules.
One client to discuss this week. Finally a bigger name in the NFL gets accused suspended for violating league substance abuse rules, but still gets off comparatively easy on the criticism front. 1. Shawne Merriman of the San Diego Chargers was suspended for 4 games after supposedly violating the NFL’s steroids policy [Sources: Chargers’ Merriman […]
Because if not, Raja Bell will take his/her chalupa. Apparently, Raja has just signed an endorsement deal with Taco Bell, which entitles him to free food at Taco Bell for the duration of his contract [Wade Debuts New Spot/Raja Signs with T-Bell]. Another interesting fact: both Bell’s have 4 letter first names. -Darren Heitner [tags]Raja […]
I don’t want to ruin the suspense, but I need to divulge some important information in order to write this post; Shawn Merriman will be on this week’s Nightmare Clients of the Week. If you have not heard, he was suspended 4 games for violating the NFL substance abuse policy. Now that I have gotten […]
Introducing Matthew Vuckovich
With Nicholas Shwayri caught up in a torturous year of trying to survive as a 1L, I have been left alone in operating this website. That is until today. Everyone welcome the newest contributor to “I Want to be a Sports Agentâ€: Matthew Vuckovich. Matthew is a senior at the University of Illinois in Champaign […]
Not Exactly Moneyball..
Michael Lewis, author of Moneyball, has just released a new book titled: The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. This time, he looks at the unsung heroes in football, most notably, the importance of a left-tackle to a team’s success. Lewis tells the personal story of Michael Oher much in the same way that he […]
And also sign more baseball players and increase his revenue. Daisuke Matsuzaka, MVP of the World Baseball Classic, has decided that he will leave the Seibu Lions in Japan and test the MLB waters with his agent Scott Boras helping him along the way [Boras to represent Japanese pitching star Matsuzaka]. This guy has performed […]

PlayersRep Sports Management. Specializes in football and baseball. It’s nice to see the NCAA Rules highlighted on an agency’s website. Know of a Sports Agency website that is not listed on the ‘Pages & Links’ section? Send it my way.
No Tolerance Policy
This past Friday, Sports Agent Charles Taplin was arrested for trying to gain information about and contact student athletes at Louisiana State University [LSUPD charges ‘agent’ in WCA]. The arrest is for “violating a Louisiana law that regulates sports agents and their contact with athletes.” But the story gets worse. Travelle Gaines, an assistant strength […]
David Isn’t Dunn Yet
All the way back on January 31st of this year (wow, this blog has come a long way…one year anniversary coming up on December 31st), I did a spotlight on Sports Agent David Dunn. Within the post, I discussed how Mr. Dunn got around a 2 year suspension imposed by the NFLPA. According to ProFootballTalk.com, […]
