Wasserman Launches Hockey Division

Per a company press release, Wasserman has acquired significant interest in Orr Hockey Group LLP, launching a hockey practice for the leading global sports and entertainment agency.

Wasserman and Orr Hockey Group LLP will manage the careers of dozens of hockey players, including the likes of former number one overall NHL draft picks Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) and Aaron Ekblad (Florida Panthers).

Hockey fans might recognize the Orr name, and if you assumed it was because of NHL legend Bobby Orr, you would be correct. Orr played 12 seasons in the NHL and is recognized as one of the game’s greats. Along with his partners Rick Curran and Paul Krepelka, he formed The Orr Hockey Group in 2002 as a player-first agency. In joining the likes of Wasserman, the joint mission is to “provide every player with a comprehensive plan of programs and services so that they may fully develop and reach their limitless potential on and off the ice,” according to the agency’s website.

“I am proud to associate my name with a company like Wasserman and am excited about the things we can accomplish together in hockey going forward,” said Orr.

When reflecting on the partnership, Orr Hockey Co-Managing Partner Jeff Jackson said, “The needs of our athletes are constantly evolving and Wasserman is the perfect strategic fit to anticipate and service these needs. While nothing will change in the way we manage our players’ day-to-day hockey careers, our clients will benefit greatly from the addition of Wasserman’s best-in-class service, extensive relationships and global network of resources.”

Orr Hockey currently represents over 30 current NHL players and up-and-coming prospects, according to its site. These athletes will join the likes of current Wasserman clients in various sports such as Russell Westbrook (NBA), Andrew Luck (NFL), Giancarlo Stanton (MLB), Alex Morgan (NWSL/USWNT) and Rickie Fowler (PGA TOUR).
