The contracts of some of crickets biggest stars have been revealed for the Indian Premier League and it’s a little surprise that Shane Warne is making the most, at $500,000. [Warne gets biggest IPL packet] Interestingly, the bowler who recently overtook his bowling record, Muttiah Muralitharan will receive only $250,000. These figures are in Australian dollars. Not bad for a month’s work. Some are outraged that the signing to the IPL will cause a rift between Cricket Australia and the IPL teams. [Australian cricket on the verge of biggest split] Australia has committed to play 22 five day test matches next year, so the scheduling will be very tight.
The biggest naming rights sponsorship deal in Australia has been Telstra Stadium’s change to ANZ Stadium. [Telstra stadium becomes the ANZ Stadium] The former Olympic venue will change it’s name in 2008. The deal is worth $31 million over 7 years.
A few weeks ago I mentioned that Dubai was hosting a $10 million end of European Tour tournament. However, the world’s best golfer, Tiger Woods, will not be taking part. [Woods to sit out ‘the Race to Dubai’] Wood’s stated that he has too many commitments to fit the tournament in.
The two South Australian AFL teams, Adelaide and Port Adelaide, are pushing for drug policy changes in their sport. They want to change the three strikes policy down to two.
