My 2nd favorite team, the New York Giants, will be taking on the evil empire in the Super Bowl. Can’t wait to see if Lawrence Tynes is still a savior in February. Anyway, lots and lots of links for you to visit on this week’s edition of Shabbat Shalom: Friday Wrap-Up. Here are the links I did not reach during the week:
- Penn State beast of a linebacker, Dan Connor, will be represented by Drew Rosenhaus [A familiar name is chosen as agent for Lions’ Connor].
- Cal standout, DeSean Jackson, will be represented by DeBartolo Sports for contractual and marketing purposes [Jackson makes decision on agent].
- A nice little background piece on IMG…although the author needs to be informed that Jeter and Manning left IMG for CAA [Second-Most Powerful Man In Golf?].
- An even better background write-up on former sports agent and current General Partner and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jeff Moorad [Jeff Moorad: Performance-enhancing Management for the Arizona Diamondbacks].
- Got to give props to the deceased, Mark McCormack, for getting inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame [Tennis-Chang, McCormack, Scott elected to Hall of Fame].
- Mark Steinberg, head of golf for IMG, also gives McCormack some praise along with discussing his relationship with Tiger Woods on Sports Business Radio [Mark Steinberg – IMG Golf VP].
- Apparently some people think Yadier Molina is the best catcher in the big leagues…or at least the most overlooked backstop. The Cardinals have decided to reward Mr. Molina quite nicely [Yadier Molina gets four-year, $15.5 million contract with Cardinals].
- We dropped the Nightmare Clients of the Week column, but I had to report on the pure and utter stupidity of Bills DE, Anthony Hargrove [NFL suspends Hargrove for season after 3rd substance abuse violation].
- Troy Tulowitzky has less than 2 full years in Major League Baseball and is about to break the previous record contract value, currently held by Grady Sizemore. Troy is looking to make $30 million over the next 6 years [The price is right for Troy Tulowitzki].
- There are some decent MLB contracts listed above, but is the league currently in or headed towards a bear market situation? How much does the American economy affect MLB salaries? [Baseball’s Bear Market?].
Lots of great posts this week, but sparking the most interest around the web was Paul Shackman’s post: Schackman’s 2008 NFL Mock Draft. It is the featured post of the week, which you can check out on the right sidebar under Featured.
