Not a game…we’re talking about Twitter

charlie villanueva

“We’re talking about Twitter here.” That was Charlie Villanueva‘s comment regarding Bucks coach Scott Skiles‘ decision to ban the use of Twitter during games, after Villanueva’s half-time “tweet” during Sunday’s victory over the Boston Celtics.  Villanueva’s response sounds comically similar to Allen Iverson’s “practice” rant, and although the Milwaukee forward did not think there was anything wrong with it at the time, he later admitted that his actions could create the impression that he wasn’t wholly focused on the game.  However, his “tweet” clearly indicates that making the post during half-time was intentionally done with discretion:

In da locker room, snuck to post my twitt. We’re playing the Celtics, tie ball game at da half. Coach wants more toughness. I gotta step up.

Coach Skiles realized that the “tweet” did not ultimately mean that Villanueva wasn’t paying attention, but that it could easily be interpreted that way.  Regardless of Villanueva’s focus, Skiles said point-blank that the increasingly popular social networking tool “doesn’t have any place in the locker room”.  Shaquille O’Neal is another NBA player that uses Twitter to stay in touch with his fans, but as far as we know he has never posted an in-game “tweet”.

If you want to follow Villanueva’s Twitter feed, his screen name is CV31.  The Bucks forward already has over 4,500 fans subscribed to his Twitter feed.
