Metis Sports Management Acquires Oak Sports Management

metisMetis Sports Management announced it has acquired Oak Sports Management, a baseball agency located in Canada that represents 35 baseball players. Metis Sports is a full-service baseball agency out of Michigan. Storm Kirschenbaum, a sports attorney and MLBPA agent and Dr. Nelson Hersh founded Metis Sports back in July 2007. Since that time it has represented nearly 150 athletes and negotiated millions of dollars in contracts.

Michael Bonanno was Oak Sports’ head baseball agent prior to the acquisition. Metis Sports has since named Bonanno its Director of North American Operations. His responsibilities will include recruiting in the U.S. and Canada for the MLB Draft, adding additional support and service to clients in the U.S. and Canada, and setting up marketing campaigns in Canada.

Kirschenbaum described Bonnano’s strong qualities. “Michael is a young, driven and passionate agent.  He has the abilities to become a major player in this industry.  I appreciated his determination to remain ethical and represent each client with integrity.  He will be a tremendous asset to our already impressive staff.  Michael was nominated by BIZ Magazine as a Top Agent Under the age of 40 and is a regular guest on the FAN590.”

Kirschenbaum further noted, “Michael Bonanno and Oak Sports add more youth and energy to our staff.  I have known Michael for several years and really liked his passion and drive to become a leader in the sports representation industry.  His connections in the Canadian market and in the U.S. are very impressive given his time in the industry.  We believe that with our support, we will be able to land some highly projectable prospects through the MLB Draft.”

Kirschenbaum also explained the reason behind the Oak Sports acquisition. “We found it was important to acquire Oak Sports as our agency is rapidly growing and adding the Canadian marketplace would enhance our abilities to service our clients in Toronto and open the door to compete for draft prospects in Canada.  This acquisition creates global recognition of the Metis Sports brand and provides services worldwide for the clients we represent.  With the addition of Michael Bonanno and Oak Sports, we now represent over 100 players and have presence in the US, Canada, Dominican Republic and in the Asian Market.”

This is just another example of Metis Sports Management’s continued growth and success as a baseball agency, and its commitment to excellence in baseball representation.
