With the increasing popularity of the eSports thanks to the likes of Red Bull, and the platform Twitch (recently purchased by Amazon), WME-IMG has acquired Global eSports Management, according to Sports Business Daily’s Michael Smith.

Global eSports Management is an international full-service eSports talent agency that manages clients across the pro gaming industry. WME-IMG will now represent eSports players who compete at the highest levels globally. Founded in 2013, GEM reps some of the biggest personalities and gaming. The business operates out of the United States, Eruope and South Korea, which is the world’s largest eSports market. The eSports and gaming industry has grown rapidly in recent years with more than 71 million people participating worldwide.

eSports is gaining popularity in the US as well, with Robert Morris University Illinois in Chicago creating an official video game team this coming fall. The team will offer the same sort of scholarships that athletes on the soccer, football and ice hockey teams receive.
