University of Virginia junior, Eli Harold, has chosen to sign with Lagardère Unlimited agents Joel Segal, Chafie Fields, and Greg Barnett for the 2015 NFL Draft, per Liz Mullen of Sports Business Journal.
Rated as the sixth-best Defensive End and dubbed the “biggest riser” by ESPN’s Mel Kiper, the Virginia Beach native is projected to be first- or second-round pick on draft night in July, although he was left off of the Ted Hendricks Award short list for the 2014 Defensive End of the Year honors.
Harold compiled 54 total tackles during the 2014 Cavalier campaign, with a season-high of 10 total tackles in UVA’s October 18th contest in Durham at conference-rival Duke. In 2014, Harold led his team in tackles for loss (14.5), while accumulating seven sacks and one interception.
After a one-year stint as a reserve his freshman season, the 6′-4″, 250-pound pass rusher started all 24 games during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Following his two years as a starter, Harold bids farewell to Charlottesville with 141 total tackles; 36.5 for loss, 17.5 sacks, and four recovered fumbles.
CBSSports.com Contributor and NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst, Dane Brugler, suggests that Harold’s impressive footwork allows him to be quick off the ball, but his lean build with minimal bulk on his frame leaves room for improvement in regards to his functional power.
