John Tobias, head of Tennis for Lagardere Unlimited, has been fired. Widely regarded as one of the best young executives in the professional sports marketing field, this marks an end to his chapter as President that began in 2010.
Per Sports Business Daily Journal, this is a move that follows two high-profile clients leaving the agency within a year for competitors WME-IMG. The clients Victoria Azarenka and Eugenie Bouchard departed leaving big holes in the division’s client list. Following those partings, Tobias was reportedly asked to fire two of his agents and when he declined, was immediately dismissed.
Tobias has represented and worked with some of the best tennis players in the world including Caroline Wozniacki, Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish, Mike & Bob Bryan, and Sam Querrey. He is also a registered NFLPA contract advisor who closely works with one of the top NFL agents, Joel Segal on a variety of projects.
