Per a press release from Berk Communications, on the heels of signing former Marquette University point forward Henry Ellenson, Roc Nation Sports today announced the signing of 2016 NBA draft prospect and former Syracuse University guard Michael Gbinije.
Initially beginning his collegiate career at Duke University, Gbinije transferred to Syracuse following his freshman year. After sitting out a season due to NCAA transfer rules, Gbinije kicked off the 2013-14 season at Syracuse against Cornell, filling out the stat sheet with six points, five assists, two steals and a blocked shot. As the season progressed, Gbinije was one of five Syracuse players who saw action in all 34 games, and logged 20 or more minutes in six of the last 11 games. Gbinije improved steadily during his junior year, averaging 12.7 PPG and 14.8 PPG in ACC play, and scoring double digits 21 times. Building off the success of his first two seasons of play at Syracuse, Gbinije impressed throughout his season year, scoring double figures in every single game. In his final home game at Syracuse, Gbinije posted a career-high 34 points and six assists in a Senior Day win against North Carolina State. Gbinije’s late-season success carried over to the NCAA Tournament, where he averaged 15.2 PPG, 3.6 APG and 4 rebounds per game during Syracuse’s Final Four run.
Gbinije is the ninth basketball player to sign with Roc Nation Sports, joining the likes of Kevin Durant, Skylar Diggins, Justise Winslow, Willie Cauley-Stein, Wilson Chandler, James Young, Caris LeVert and Henry Ellenson.
