Indiana Fever Guard Erica Wheeler Signs Marketing Agreement With Distinction Agency

The 2019 WNBA All-Star MVP has agreed to terms with the Miami-based marketing agency Distinction Agency. Distinction Agency is tasked with helping to develop and build Erica Wheeler’s brand.

Erica Wheeler of the Indiana Fever, averaged 10.1 points per game on 42.8% field goal and 5 assists per game in the 2019 season. Becoming only the fifth undrafted player to be selected to the WNBA All-Star game, said that she heard from many different firms before deciding on Distinction. So what made her decide on Distinction Agency?

One word, “authentic”. In a conversation with Wheeler, she explained that Distinction Agency was the only firm she was able to meet with in person. The passion and authentic pitch that was given won her over. When asked if there was any pressure to go with a larger firm, she said “I don’t want to be just another name on a list, I want to be a priority and I felt like Distinction was going to give me that”.

Since entering the league as an undrafted free agent, Wheeler said that she and her agent was always looking for a marketing firm, but just had trouble finding the right fit. Some firms offering marketing in exchange for representation on the business side which was a deal breaker. Wheeler was impressed with the genuine interest Distinction Agency had in not only monetizing her brand, but pushing forward her community work with Wheeler Kid Foundation.

Currently, the future of sports as a whole is still uncertain with COVID-19 expected to present a second wave. But when asked about how she will approach a season that’s potentially in a “bubble” at IMG Academy, Wheeler said without hesitation “I don’t care where we play, it can be a ball in a jungle..I’ll be ready”. That mindset will likely bring more All-Star appearances and keep Distinction Agency very busy.
