Budda Baker becomes the highest-paid safety in the NFL after he inked a four-year extension worth $59 million with $33.1 million guaranteed, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 2-time Pro Bowl selection was the Arizona Cardinals 2nd round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The former Washington Huskie will average $14.75 million per year.
“It’s definitely an exciting thing for me to be labeled [as the highest-paid safety in league history], to say that,” Baker said. “It was a very cool experience and it’s a very cool experience right now. But, for me, I’m just trying to earn what I will make now. I’m labeled as this player and now I have to show out and continue to show out each and every week. And that’s my goals and my plans to do that”, in an interview with ESPN.
With 147 tackles and an NFL leading 104 solo tackles last season, Baker was the only player with at least 100 solo tackles in the 2019 season. Since entering the NFL, Baker has the most quarterback pressures (33) for a defensive back.
Baker is represented by Athletes First agent David Mulugheta. Another record breaking contract extension to add to Mulugheta’s resume. Among Mulugheta’s clients include NFL defensive stars such as Landon Collins, Jalen Ramsey, Earl Thomas, Casey Hayward and Bobby Wagner.
