Unfortunately, I have some sad news to start off the day. Last night, it was reported that baseball agent Dick Robinson died at the age of 71. Robinson had suffered a head injury on Saturday, July 30, 2011, when he went over the handlebars while riding his bicycle. He had been wearing his helmet, but it was not enough to save his life.
Robinson started off as a recruiter for Barry Meister of Meister Sports Management and focused on recruiting talented baseball players in Kentucky and Tennessee. He became a mentor and agent to many of the players he helped recruit for Meister’s company.
Besides representing professional baseball players, Robinson produced a popular Lexington, Kentucky based radio show titled, “The Joe B. and Denny Show,” taught Sports Management classes at Midway College, and was very involved in Kentucky politics. At one point in his life he was also a basketball coach at Oakland University in Michigan, an insurance salesman, and a Major League Baseball scout for the Montreal Expos.
