Davin Meggett had a respectable, but non-flashy 3-star rating by Rivals.com when he was coming out of high school. The running back from Surrattsville, Maryland was ranked 16th in his state. But he is the son of former successful running back Dave Meggett (who is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence for rape and robbery), so he certainly has the genes to be a star. The University of Maryland took a chance on Davin and they have to be happy with their choice.
In 2010, Meggett averaged 5.7 yards-per-rush, which was reduced to 5.2 yards-per-rush in 2011. In a tough season for the Terrapins, Meggett’s best game came against West Virginia University early in the year, when he ran for 113 yards. NFLDraftScout.com likes his potential at the next level, giving Meggett a rating of #7 out of a total of 165 running backs. The site projects him to be a 4-5 round pick.
Roughly a week ago, Meggett signed with agent Adisa Bakari of Dow Lohnes Sports in an effort to get his NFL Draft grade even higher. Bakari’s practice is based in nearby Washington D.C. In 2011, Bakari was honored at The Network Journal (TNJ)’s 14th Annual “40 Under Forty” Achievement Awards. TNJ is a New York tri-state premier magazine for Black professionals, corporate executives and small business owners.
