Summer Internships

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I am very excited to be a part of this website. First and foremost I would like to give a big thanks to Darren for giving me the opportunity to share my thoughts and stories with everyone that views this web page.

A topic to think about for all of you aspiring young adults like myself that are thinking about breaking into the sports industry is, who will you intern with during the summer? I know your probably thinking that were just about to walk into November and summer is not coming until May, but now is the time to research as many different agencies and firms as you can so that you obtain all of your information. The reason why I want to make this an important point is that there are going to be hundreds of people that will be applying and it is better to get your resume and cover letter in before the rush does. What I have found from personal experience is that getting a summer internship with a sports agency is extremely difficult and you have to knock on many doors until you find the one that opens.

Summer internships are a critical part for us to not only get our foot in the door but to also learn how the business works from the group up. For mostly sophomores in college you need to understand that getting a internship in a big time agency is not likely to happen. Try and shot for the smaller ones and learn as much as you can. For the juniors and seniors, it is important that you truly understand that this business is not an easy one to crack into. If you have to, make phones calls to the agencies that you want to be a part of and make sure that they know who you are. I will discuss more about the importance of these summer internships when the time comes around. If anything, get the information for who you will have to contact for the internships so you can be ready when its game time.

I have a big interest in this internship program. I am a 21 year sports management major at the United State Sports Academy. I am currently partnered up with an NFL agent and have been working in the sports world for 3 years now. I am also part of a sports marketing firm and have helped them sign big time names in the NFL.
