Just two weeks after inking Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, IMG has announced the signing of Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova to a worldwide representation agreement. She was previously solely managed by Miroslav Cernosek, who will continue to work with IMG in finding opportunities in her native Czech Republic. Kvitova will also retain Katie Spellman, who mangers her PR.
Kvitova’s triumph at the All England Club in July was her second Wimbledon title. She defeated up and coming prodigy Eugenie Bouchard, who herself is not a stranger to IMG, with speculation rife that the management company is gunning for her signature.
Petra currently has endorsement deals with seven sponsors including Nike, Wilson racquets and Swiss watch manufacturer Ulysse Nardin. It is estimated she earns around $1 million per annum from these deals.
Fernando Soler, head of IMG Tennis, had this to say about the signing: “We couldn’t be more excited about working with Petra to further support her success as a player and maximise her brand in the global marketplace.” Kvitova added: “Joining a leading international company like IMG will give me the opportunity to achieve my goals both on and off the court. I’m really excited to get to work and reach the next level.”
Marijn Bal will be Kvitova’s agent at IMG.
