In an interview with The Wall Street Journal in September of last year, Caroline Wozniacki stated she’d love to sign an endorsement deal for chocolate. This week, that became a reality.
Wozniacki has signed an endorsement deal with Belgian Chocolatier Godiva. Financial terms were not disclosed, however it is likely that this is one of the smaller deals in Caroline’s portfolio. this is the first athlete endorsement deal for the company.
Lagardere’s Director of Marketing Drew LeMesurier first brought the company’s attention to her just weeks after her dream run at the US Open. Caroline’s love for the brand saw her have the company’s choclate in her room at the time. From there, a meeting was set up with the company in New York and the rest is history. LeMesurier stated that Caroline gave up quite a bit of leverage when she said in the interview she’d do it for just for product, though both sides did settle on a financial component.
Wozniacki’s extensive portfolio of sponsors includes lucrative deals with Adidas, Rolex and Babolat. Industry sources suggest her off court income exceeds $10 million. This deal comes just a day after Caroline was announced as being included in Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Issue.
