Official Brands Inc., former marketing company for Dez Bryant, has filed a civil suit against Roc Nation Sports. Darren Heitner, attorney for Official Brands, confirmed the suit was filed on Tuesday in Dallas County.
The suit states that Roc Nation Sports committed “tortious interference” which claims the defendant wrongfully interfered with the plaintiff’s contractual and business relationships.
According to Brandon George of DallasNews.com, in July of 2013, Bryant signed a two year contract with Official Brands that gave them permission to use the receiver’s name, signature, and likeness in developing the “Throw Up The X” brand in connection with the company’s social media and websites.
Official Brands created Dez Bryant’s official website, www.dezbryant.com, and designed/sold merchandise using Bryant’s brand. Ryan Totka, talent booking agent that works for Official Brands, helped establish Bryant’s “Throw Up The X” brand, managed Bryant’s social media accounts, and created the official website.
In February, Bryant severed all communication with Totka. Totka then received a termination letter from Bryant’s lawyer, Jordan Siev, that alleged Official Brands failed to follow the terms of their contract with Bryant.
